• • Guest Speaker: Marlon Brown - Director of Government Affairs for the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce
    

    Originally from the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, Marlon Brown received his Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and his Master’s degree from Georgia Tech.

    With over three decades of experience in government service, Brown has held key leadership roles throughout Florida, including serving as the County Administrator for Gadsden County and in various positions within Tallahassee city government. In 2009, he became Deputy City Manager for the City of Sarasota and was appointed City Manager in 2021, making history as Sarasota’s first Black City Manager.

    Following his retirement from government service in 2023, Brown transitioned to the private sector and now serves as the Director of Government Affairs for the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he advocates for business-friendly policies on critical issues such as affordable housing, economic development, and transportation.

    Brown remains actively engaged in the community, serving on the Board of the United Way Suncoast and chairing its Community Impact Committee. In his free time, he enjoys sports, traveling, exploring Sarasota's cultural and culinary scene, and spending time with his family.
